Developing Gen Hope to Lead Today

At Valley Creek, we’re all about raising up generations of hope carriers. We believe our students are Gen Hope – a generation defined by the hope of Jesus. We believe leadership is the gift God uses to empower them to make a difference in their world. Through Student Leadership Experience, students will discover more about who they are, who God is, and what they were created to do.

What is student leadership experience?

Student Leadership Experience is a nine-month journey where students (6th-12th grade students) will have fun while learning to lead themselves and others through weekly and monthly interactive experiences.

Throughout the experience, students will practice their faith by completing objectives designed to help them grow in character and personhood and form lifelong habits of a leader. Examples include learning to have meaningful conversations, participating in team-based activities, practicing spiritual disciplines, and carrying hope to other students through serving and inviting.

Expectations & Commitments

In the kingdom of God, faithfulness matters and commitment counts. We don’t want students to miss out on anything Jesus wants to do in or through them. This experience is highly relational and team-based, which means that consistency is important and their absence is significant.

Saying “yes” to this experience is committing to engage in a minimum of 75% of all gatherings. If at any point during the year students are unable to consistently stay above the required commitment, they are making the choice to remove themselves from Student Leadership Experience.

Part of being a leader is being punctual and honoring commitments. Students are expected to arrive at least five minutes before the start of each experience. If they aren’t able to make it, we ask that they proactively communicate with their coach through the appropriate communication channel.

In everything we do, students are expected to bring their PB&J (pen, Bible, &journal). We value the Word of God, and we want our students to be prepared to capture what God is saying to them every time they’re here.

Monthly

The first Sunday of every month, from 6:30pm-8:30pm, students will come together to work through one of our foundational topics, discuss their learnings, and put them into practice through fun leadership labs.

Sundays

Every Sunday morning, students will meet with their coaches at 8:45am at their local campus. Here they will unpack the monthly leadership topic through interactive experiences and lead the way in the weekend experience.

Wednesdays

Every Wednesday night, students will come in for PRP (Pizza, Rally, Prayer) at 6:15pm. They'll gather with their team to rally around our culture point, pray together for the Wednesday experience, and be released at 6:40pm to serve in their assigned roles.

Cost

There's a one-time, $75 application fee ($150 family maximum) which will cover the cost of the experience, food each week, journal, Bible, and Student Leadership Experience shirt.

What will the monthly experiences focus on?

Throughout our monthly experiences, we’ll cover foundational topics that will help students build a strong, biblical foundation, learn practical leadership skills for their everyday life, and deepen their relationship with Jesus.

Students will engage with eight of these topics each year. As we go through them, our content will focus primarily on one of three areas: theology, leadership, or character.

Theology

This answers the question, "What does the Bible say about __ ?" Students will learn how to find God's heart in specific areas that will help them continue to follow Jesus.

Character

Students are called to live set apart - for the good of others and the glory of God. We'll help students discover who God made them to be and what it means to glorify God with their lives.

Leadership

We believe our students are the leaders of today. We'll help students learn how to practically lead themselves and others to impact their world for Jesus.
