Questions About Serve the Region

Anyone interested in using their time, experience, passions, or skills to serve the region can express interest in joining the Serve the Region community.

You do not need professional experience or specialized abilities. Some opportunities require specific skills, while many simply require a willing heart and a readiness to serve.

Joining the Serve the Region Community does not commit you to every project or register you for a specific opportunity. It means you will receive Serve the Region updates by email and/or text. When a project becomes available, you can review the details and decide whether it is the right opportunity for you.

Understanding your passions, skills, professional experience, certifications, languages, spiritual gifts, and Areas of Life helps us connect the right people with the right opportunities.

Not every project will require specialized experience, but knowing more about your skills helps us respond when a school, city, nonprofit, or community leader has a specific need.

Projects are shaped by the needs shared with us, so every opportunity may look different.

Projects could include:

  • Serving a school, city, or nonprofit organization
  • Improving or preparing a community space
  • Supporting families experiencing a specific need
  • Providing professional or specialized skills
  • Preparing supplies, equipment, or resources
  • Supporting an existing community initiative

Some projects require a large team, while others may need only a few people with specific experience or skills.

After joining the Serve the Region, you will receive project opportunities and updates by email and/or text.

Each invitation will direct you to the private Serve the Region project page, where you can learn more about the project and register if you would like to participate.

No. Joining the Serve the Region community and registering for a project are two separate steps.

The interest form adds you to the STR group. When you choose a specific opportunity, you will complete a separate project registration.

You will receive a confirmation email after registering. Depending on the size and needs of the project team, you may also be invited to join a project-specific GroupMe.

That GroupMe may be used before, during, and after the project to communicate the project’s goals, preparation information, schedule, practical details, updates, and follow-up.

Each GroupMe is temporary and will be closed after communication for that project is complete. Team leads may also occasionally send text messages based on project needs.

Projects may happen throughout North Texas. Serve the Region is not organized around serving only the communities closest to a particular Valley Creek campus.

Hope Carriers from every campus may be invited to serve wherever an opportunity emerges in our region.

Participation requirements will vary by project. Some opportunities may be appropriate for families, while others may have age limits or require specific experience.

Any age requirements or other participation guidelines will be included in the project information.

Serve the Region is a year-round initiative, not a single annual event. Opportunities will be shared as meaningful needs emerge and projects are developed.

Because we want to listen and respond well, projects may not occur on a fixed schedule.

Yes. If you know of a community leader, school, city, nonprofit organization, or meaningful need that Serve the Region should explore, email [email protected].

Sharing an opportunity does not guarantee that it will become an STR project. Our team will listen, learn more, and determine whether and how Valley Creek can serve.

We value having trusted and influential community leaders who understands the people they serve and invites us into meaningful opportunities. Contacts for projects may be school leaders, city officials, nonprofit leaders, ministry leaders, or others who are already working for the good of their community. We value opportunities to come alongside them to help advance the vision and work God has entrusted to them.

In this season, we are currently using the Next Steps Center to train and mobilize hope carriers. Equipping our teams to serve the region for projects and preparing teams for trips around the world.

That is completely okay. Visit the Missions webpage to learn about other ways to carry hope to our neighbors and the nations.

Reminder: No Weekend Experiences on Sunday, July 5

May you continue enjoying God and the life He's giving you!
