Developing Gen Hope to Lead Today

At Valley Creek, we’re all about raising up generations of hope carriers. We believe kids have the ability to influence and lead their generation for Jesus and toward Jesus. We don’t just believe they’ll change the world some day; we know they can change their world today. That’s why we have Kids Leadership Experience.

What is kids leadership experience?

Kids Leadership Experience is a nine-month journey where kids (4th & 5th grade students) will have fun while learning how to lead themselves and others through weekly and monthly interactive experiences.

Each kid will be part of a team of peers, called a pod, that is led by two coaches. Kids will walk out of this experience encouraged, connected, and empowered.

Purpose

What will the monthly experiences focus on?

Theology is simply what we believe about God. And while theology can be overwhelming, all of our beliefs can be summarized by these four core truths. Even though these truths may seem simple, they’re incredibly deep and incredibly profound.

Everything we do flows from these truths we want kids to discover, experience, and remember. Every year in Kids Leadership Experience, kids will have fun as they journey through eight foundational topics that will help them discover and experience these truths.

Expectations & Commitments

In the kingdom of God, faithfulness matters and commitment counts. We don’t want kids to miss out on anything Jesus wants to do in or through them during this experience. Because this experience is highly relational and team-based, consistency is important, and their absence is significant.

Saying “yes” to this experience is saying “yes” to committing to engage in a minimum of 75% of all experiences. If at any point during the year your family is unable to consistently stay above the required commitment, you’re making the choice to remove your child from Kids Leadership Experience. Part of being a leader is being punctual and honoring commitments. With that in mind, kids are expected to arrive at least five minutes before the start of each experience. If at any time you’re concerned about meeting these requirements, please proactively reach out to your Kids Director to talk about it.

Parents:

We believe the best way we can help your kids grow as leaders is by partnering with you. Here are some practical ways you can help your child get the most from their experience:

  • Make sure they arrive on time with their pen, Bible, and journal (PB&J) in hand and wearing their Kids Leadership Experience shirt.
  • Ask them each week about what they’re learning, and help them complete the objective activities at home.
  • Pray for your child each week as they engage in the leadership experience, and pray for their coach who will be leading them.
Kids:
  • You’ll have Sunday huddles 30 minutes prior to your assigned service time. Bring your pen, Bible, journal (PB&J) and wear your Kids Leadership Experience shirt.
  • There will be a monthly leadership experience on the first Wednesday of every month. They begin at 6pm and end at 7:30pm. You’ll bring your PB&J every time!

Wednesdays

On the first Wednesday of each month kids will attend a monthly leadership experience at their campus from 6pm-7:30pm. They'll have fun engaging in foundational teaching and participating in team-focused leadership labs. Pizza and water will be provided.

Sundays

Every Sunday, kids will huddle with their coach 30 minutes before their assigned service time to continue to unpack the monthly topic, receive a leadership challenge, and have a unique serving opportunity during the weekend experience.

Objectives

Throughout the experience, kids will complete monthly objectives at home that will help them grow in both character and personhood while forming lifelong habits of a leader. Examples include memorizing Scripture, learning how to pray and spend time with Jesus, and learning how to read the Bible and apply it to everyday life.

Cost

There's a one-time, $75 application fee ($150 family maximum) which will cover the cost of the experience, food each month, journal, Bible, and Kids Leadership Experience shirt.
