Week Four Practice Plan

(October 12- October 18)

Jesus’ whole message is, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17) The good and beautiful life Jesus describes in the Sermon on the Mount is an invitation to a lifestyle of repentance.

There are two types of repentance:

Sin Repentance

Sin repentance is turning away from sin and towards God. It happens when we change our ways after recognizing that we’ve sinned, rebelled, disobeyed, or missed the mark.

Hebrews 6:1 – …repentance from dead works and of faith toward God.

Revelation Repentance

Revelation repentance is changing your thinking and direction in response to something newly revealed to you. It happens when we receive wisdom on what is good and beautiful and choose to align our lives with that.

Ephesians 1:17 – …the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.

Here’s How to Practice:

Find a quiet time and place to be alone with Jesus for 15 minutes.

Part 1: Define It

  • In your own words, write out how you would define sin repentance and revelation repentance.
  • In your own words, write out how you know when you’re actually repenting (Acts 26:20).

Part 2: Try It

Now that we’ve heard the Sermon on the Mount a few times, God’s invitation for us is to engage in both sin repentance and revelation repentance. As you answer these questions, be as specific as you can. Remember there’s no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).

Ask the Holy Spirit:

  • Where are You inviting me to turn away from sin?
  • Where are You inviting me to live differently based on what You’ve been revealing to me?
  • What’s one specific action You’re asking me to take this week?
