Serve with the Next Steps Center

The 3rd Saturday of every month we send teams out into our community to serve. Projects include park and neighborhood cleanup, hosting bike rodeos, sorting donations,  small construction projects, prayer walks and so much more.

We have several great service projects including working in a community garden, DIY projects at local schools, doing yard work, painting, light construction and much more.  There is a place for families, individuals, young and old to meet the community needs we see.

Thanksgiving for many of us is a time to eat too much and enjoy family. Sadly, that is not the situation for countless others in our community. A large number of kids in our neighborhoods are on reduced breakfast and lunch school programs. During holiday and summer breaks many children do not have access to food. Parents struggle financially to have enough food in their home for their children to eat. While many programs provide free Thanksgiving day meals, Valley Creek has decided to provide an entire week of groceries to families in need for Thanksgiving Week. If you would like to donate food or be part of the grocery bag assembly team then come join us.

Donation Times are:

  • November 3, 4, 10 & 11 from 10am to 4pm
  • November 12 – 16 from 4pm to 8pm

Here are the specific items we are collecting:

  • Canned Meat
  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned Soups
  • Microwave Popcorn
  • Raisins or Fruit Snacks
  • Apple Sauce Cups
  • Box of Rice or 1 to 2 lbs. bag
  • Granola Bars or Cereal Bars
  • Canned Beans
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Jelly  in a plastic container
  • Peanut Butter in a plastic container
  • Boxes of Pasta
  • Canned Pasta Sauce
  • Velveeta Shells and Cheese
  • Snack Crackers
  • Ramen Noodles

Bags will be handed out to families during November’s Serve the City Day.  See above to sign up.

This year the Next Steps Center is hosting the Salvation Army Angel Tree.

We will begin by meeting families in need during the Angel Tree Family Interviews followed up by the gift distribution on December 19th.   The Interviews are a special time to sit with each family, to listen to their story and to find out what their children would like for Christmas.  Then in December, we will see these same families and get a chance to share the love of Jesus and the joy of Christmas with them as gifts are handed out.

The Next Steps Center is now open on Mondays from 10 am to 4 pm.  During this time we accept donations, pray with people in need, work on various projects and have a ton of fun together serving God and serving others.  The NSC Receptionist Team are the first people from our VCC Family that many people will encounter so we want to have a welcoming, gracious group of folks on this team.

Many kids in our communities could use encouragement and a smile to set them up for success in school.  We have been given the opportunity to serve several of our community schools by providing reading buddies, copy room helpers, mentors, lunch buddies, field trip chaperones, welcome teams and so much more.

If you are interested in serving in a school environment please email and we’ll be in touch.
