Watch out! (Read: Jer. 10-12)
Posted on July 29th, 2010 at 5:30 am by admin. Category: Bible In A YearThough the people were comfortable boasting about themselves and rarely boasting about knowing God, they did have the “god-talk” habit in place. Jeremiah could see through their thinly veiled religious veneer: “You are always on the lips, but far from their hearts” (Jer.12:2). Are you familiar with worship, Scripture and ministry? Watch out! There is danger in thinking that because you know the terminology, the practices, and the routines that somehow you have reached the goal and have become an authority on God. But from God’s perspective, simply knowing the data isn’t enough. His concern is that your heart and life change to reflect his character. The more truth you know, the more life change was expected. “Faithless Israel is more righteous than unfaithful Judah” (Jer.3:11). So God is not impressed by our god-talk; he is seeking a change of heart. He is not some ‘fad’ that the general population loves to talk about at a superficial level. God desires you and he wants you to desire him. He intends to be the object of your love. It is the difference you hear in a person’s voice when they are telling you about their passionate love for their mate vs. repeating a funny line from a popular movie. How does a person’s love for God grow cold? What would you consider some of the ‘warning signs?’
